Ten Thousand Villages, an emporium of fairly traded handicrafts from around the world, celebrated its grand opening in Highland Park, N.J., on Thurs., July 26.
As the world’s oldest fair trade organization, Ten Thousand Villages has spent more than 60 years cultivating trading relationships in which artisans receive a fair price for their work and consumers have access to distinctive handcrafted gift items, personal accessories and home décor from across the globe. Ten Thousand Villages seeks to establish long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisans are under- or unemployed, and in which they lack other opportunities for income.
Ten Thousand Villages in Highland Park is a nonprofit fair trade retailer of artisan-crafted items from more than 110 artisan groups in some 35 countries.
The store is situated at 320 Raritan Ave., the former location of Pyramid Books.
